Brunch at Café au Chocolat

Every once and a while, it’s lovely to enjoy a relaxing brunch out with family and friends, soaking up all the atmosphere and chatting casually over a table of delicious food.

The other weekend, my family and I took a short trip to the beautiful Georgian market town of Stamford in Lincolnshire, where after a stroll around the boutiques, we stopped at the quaint French style Café au Chocolat in the centre of Stamford, to enjoy a spot of brunch. I have to admit, with a name that translates to chocolate coffee, who wouldn’t love to eat here and that’s exactly what first attracted us to visit.

Café au Chocolat, a taste of continental France, is a chic and cosy, family-run café, serving a delicious selection of tasty treats, including a variety of savoury and sweet crêpes, a selection of speciality coffees and hot chocolates and mouth-watering pastries and cakes. There is also a selection of luxury artisan chocolates to purchase as gifts or to eat in the café, if you fancy a little extra treat.

We arrived mid-morning on a Saturday and found a table easily, as it wasn’t overly busy. As Stamford’s only crêperie, all the crêpes are made front of house, using gluten-free flour and the 17th century stone building that encompasses Café au Chocolat, made it an all the more lovelier experience.

After much deliberation of what we should choose, we finally placed our order at the counter. I ordered a Strawberries and Salted Caramel crêpe, which was extremely good, accompanied with a creamy latte, complete with a shot of vanilla syrup. My hubby decided on the Chocolat Liegeois crêpe, complete with two boules of chocolate ice-cream, Belgium chocolate drizzle and cream.

Our daughters had a lot of fun deciding what they wanted to eat, as they were completely spoilt for choice. In the end, one decided on a Banana Split crêpe, comprising of bananas, chocolate sauce, one boule of vanilla ice-cream, cream and Belgium chocolate drizzle and the other opted for a scrumptious strawberry heart-shaped cake from the patisserie range.

After the order had been placed, we sat at our chosen table and our food was brought to us fairly quickly, by one of the waitresses.

Once our delicious brunch had been well and truly devoured and enjoyed, we headed off back into the historic centre to continue our day of strolling around the shops. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Café au Chocolat and wouldn’t hesitate in returning back to try another one of their delicious crêpes and cakes and if you ever find yourself in Stamford for a day out shopping or you’re meeting up with friends, pop into Café au Chocolat, it’s a real treat and well worth the visit.
