Orange & Lemon Butter Biscuits

These orange and lemon butter biscuits are so easy to bake and the citrusy zesty taste comes through deliciously with every bite. Topped with orange and lemon glaze, they’re a sure crowd pleaser and go perfectly with a nice cup of tea.

Ingredients ~ makes about 12

125g butter, softened

100g caster sugar

1 egg

200g plain flour

zest of 1 orange

zest of 1 lemon

1/4 teaspoon of baking powder

pinch of salt

For The Glaze

150g icing sugar

1 tablespoon orange juice or more if needed

1 tablespoon lemon juice or more if needed


  1. Heat oven to 180°C/350°F/gas 4. Grease a baking sheet with butter. Beat the butter and sugar in a bowl until creamy. Beat in the egg until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add the flour, orange and lemon zest, baking powder and salt and mix until you have a ball of dough. Cover and place in the fridge for 2 hours, or until firm.
  2. Roll out the dough on a floured surface until 1/2cm thick. Cut out shapes and place on greased baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are a light brown. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
  3. Once the biscuits have cooled completely, mix together the icing sugar and orange and lemon juice. Using the tip of a spoon, drizzle the glaze over each biscuit. Enjoy!
