One of my favourite things to do in the whole world, is going for a delicious Afternoon Tea. There’s something quite special and sophisticated about dainty sandwiches, clotted creamed scones and delicate individual cakes and pastries. I just LOVE IT!
As if Afternoon Tea could get any better, there are now some amazing and unique themed Afternoon Teas for us all to enjoy! I’ve been lucky enough to experience several themed Afternoon Teas of late, which have all been incredibly delicious and last weekend we enjoyed another of those special occasions by celebrating my daughter’s birthday in style, with an Alice in Wonderland themed Afternoon Tea!
Afternoon Tea in Wonderland, was held in the Kona restaurant at Taj 51 Buckingham Gate hotel in London and oh my goodness, it was amazing! To start with, both the five star hotel and restaurant were so luxurious and the perfect setting to experience your Afternoon Tea. As well as offering the Alice in Wonderland Afternoon Tea, Taj 51 Buckingham Gate also offer other themed Teas, such as Sherlock Holmes, Jasmine Indian and to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day, they have introduced The Enchanted Rose Afternoon Tea for a limited time only. With a good selection of Afternoon Teas available, you’re definitely spoilt for choice here.
We booked our Tea for 12:30pm and on arrival we were taken into the restaurant and shown to our table. As soon as we entered the restaurant, our eyes immediately lit up and we had permanent grins fixed on our faces, right from the start. All of the tables were dressed in either the Alice in Wonderland theme or the Sherlock Holmes theme and they all looked so fabulous.
We loved the way our table was set, complete with the Mad Hatter’s hat, giant playing cards, jewellery, flowers and a gorgeous Alice in Wonderland inspired menu. It was everything you would expect from a themed Afternoon Tea and totally in keeping with the characters and objects from this iconic classic story.
The food was to die for, with an excellent assortment of finger sandwiches, including Alice: English Cucumber and Cream Cheese on Beetroot Bread, Bird In The Tree: Chicken and Sultana on Carrot Bread, Fish Footman: Tuna Mayonnaise on White Bread and Lory: Cornish Yarg and Tomato with Redcurrant Jelly. Next we had a cake stand of all sorts of goodies brought to our table, including Pocket Watch: Bubble Gum Macaron, Caterpillar’s Mushroom: Raspberry Marshmallow, Queen Of Hearts: Mango Tart, Dodo’s: Watermelon Jelly, Tea Cup: White Chocolate Mousse and not forgetting Queen’s Recipe Drop Scones: An assortment of Plain, Chocolate Chip and Golden Sultana with Cornish Clotted Cream and Strawberry Preserve. As if all this wasn’t enough, we were also brought Drink Me: A Strawberry Potion, which was amazing! To top it all off, my hubby and I chose a spicy, gingery tea to drink, which was so refreshing and our girls opted for a pot of delicious hot chocolate.
Needless to say, after devouring nearly all of our delicious Afternoon Tea, we were totally stuffed and we could have taken the remaining cakes home with us if we wanted to. All the staff at Taj 51 Buckingham Gate were so polite and attentive throughout and as it was my daughter’s birthday, they even brought out a little cake with candles for her after the meal, which made a very special day even more special indeed. This Afternoon Tea was loved by all of us and if you’re looking for a 5 star luxury London experience, then look no further, this is definitely for you! If you’ve enjoyed a themed Afternoon Tea, do let me know, I’m always on the look out for new and exciting things to experience.
