A couple of weeks ago, to celebrate our friend’s birthday, we decided to indulge in a very special (and luxurious) Afternoon Tea at The Ritz.
Now, I have enjoyed my fair share of lovely Afternoon Teas over the years, but this one was quite special indeed. The whole building oozed a lifetime of glamour and sophistication, from the opulent and ornate chandeliers to the beautiful and lavish furnishings. This was definitely a great choice for a birthday celebration.
Our Afternoon Tea was booked for 11:30am and after a good look around (well it would be rude not to, wouldn’t it), we were shown into the elegantly decorated Palm Court, ready to begin our eagerly awaited Tea.
Everything was perfect, from our beautifully laid out table, next to a mini waterfall with gold statues, to the immaculately dressed waiters, this was Afternoon Tea at its best!
We were served a mouth watering selection of goodies, with six different varieties of sandwiches, including ham with grain mustard mayonnaise on brioche bread, cheddar cheese with chutney on tomato bread and Scottish smoked salmon with lemon butter on sourdough bread. We also indulged in raisin and plain scones, accompanied with Cornish clotted cream and strawberry preserve and a wonderful assortment of delicate pastries, including mini lemon meringue tarts and delicious macarons. After some consideration, we all opted for the Ritz Royal English tea to accompany our luxurious feast.
Just when we thought we had all eaten enough to keep us going for a week, the waiter brought round a trolley with a choice of even more delights to choose from, including chocolate torte and an apple and caramel slice. Well, we didn’t want to disappoint the waiter by refusing these little culinary masterpieces, so we tried those too! To make the Afternoon Tea even more spectacular, we were all treated to a musical ensemble from the resident pianist, which made a special day even more memorable.
Three full tummies and several photos later, it was time to leave the glamour of The Ritz behind and continue with the birthday celebrations, with a bit (okay, a lot) of retail therapy.
If you love Afternoon Tea, dining at The Ritz is an absolute must, after all, who doesn’t love a spot of luxury every now and then?
